St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church

Yesterday we got a phone call.

My secretary asks: "Can you do a wedding tomorrow, father?"

"Are they Christians?" Check
"Do they go to church?" They have gone
"Are they Episcopalians?" No
"Would they become Episcopalians?" Maybe
"Are they divorced?" No

"OK. $500. Tomorrow 4:00pm. Check to St. Barts."

They assented and hung up.

I remembered, then, that this is probably against the rules. I think there's a thirty day requirement.

They called back to cancel. "Must be getting cold feet," my secretary remarked. I suspect it was the price. (Dis) Incentives determine interest....

Next time, it will be a simple "no."
